Snow Camping 01/28/06

Well I went snow camping this weekend. My sister and her family took their annual snow trip and I decided to pitch a tent. Big jeers go out to Aramark and Zephyer Cove for BS'g me.They told me I could pitch a tent and after talking with a guy for about 20 minutes on the phone going over suitable places I get up there and a guy says they don't allow tents in the winter. End of story.

Cheers to the 2 ladies at the Zephyer Cove library for letting me use the phone book and possibly the internet to find another place.

Finally cheers to the folks at Tahoe Valley Campground who thought I was crazy at first when I said I wanted to pitch a tent. They didn't BS me and said that it was covered in snow and ice but I would be welcomed.

A big Hi 5 goes out to Mike, a fellow myspacer from Carson City, who volunteered to come out and help me set up camp. We shot the breeze and enjoyed a beer. Thanks again for the alternate directions though I screwed up and took 89 North to Truckee. If anyone has the chance to drive 89 North from Tahoe to Truckee do it! The views were fantastic and I wish there was places to pull out so I could have shot some pictures.

On Saturday night Jay (6) and Anise (8-9) were the only brave souls willing to spend the night in the tent. We stayed toasty warm and had a great time. I also went fishing with Matt. It was way too windy and the temp was only about 35 at the time but we caught some rocks. LOL Matt, we should have tried it on Sunday when the lake was glass smooth and temp was in the 50's.

On to the pictures. I should have taken more and I will make a trip up 89 North and get some of those shots.

Jay is on the snowboard and Anise is wearing the purple coat.

There is Matt on the left in the blue coat. Chelsea is up on the snowboard. There is one or two of her being gracious on the snowboard. The rest are usually how she ends up.

Thanks again for allowing me to share my weekend.

Lake Solano 01/21/06

I didn't take many pictures this weekend though I could have taken many more. The area was nice and I got to spend some time fishing even though I didn't catch anything. I will try again in a few months in my float tube.

These peacocks were just walking around the park so I took a few pictures. The last picture is me trying to do the Tom Bodet thing from Motel 6. "I'll leave the light on".

Next weekend is up to Tahoe to get in some snow camping.

Thanks again for stopping by and I will take more photos next week.

Big Sur 01/15/06

Well I went camping this weekend in Big Sur. I got set up on Friday afternoon and then it rained until Sunday. I stayed dry and had a great time as usual. One of the windows wasn't zippered closed right and my clothes got soaked. Pretty minor considering how hard it rained. They dried out on Sunday.

The replacement stove arrived today but that portable buddy heater works nice as well. That blue tent covering didn't make it though. The wind just twisted that thing up. Hope that company will be as good as Cabela's at exchanging it.

Some of the things were pretty pricey down that way. Gas was $3.55 a gallon at this one place. It was almost too touristy for me.

Enjoy the pictures.
